Scary Rabbits
When I was writing my first book a few years ago, my oldest
daughter who was about ten at the time, was reading Bunnicula by James and
Deborah Howe. She loved the Bunnicula books so much that she asked me to write
about a scary rabbit. So, for my daughter, I created the rabbit shifters, which
are viewed by the other shapeshifters in my stories with a mix of awe and fear.
Readers get a closer look at the world of rabbit shifters in
Coyote’s Vow (Stranger Creatures book 4). Rabbit shifters can take the form of
harmless little fluffballs, but they can also morph into tall, bony,
fur-covered creatures with teeth like a bear trap and fur full of projectile
needles. Though the rabbits can appear terrifying, they’re usually pretty
decent people. They don’t like to be touched by anyone while in rabbit form and
won’t hesitate to get mean about it. They also like to play pranks. Rabbit
shifters are the deadliest of all the of shapeshifters and usually use their
skills to protect shifters and regular humans.
A little more about the characters from Coyote’s Vow
Trevor Ryland was a minor character in Wolf’s Challenge
(Stranger Creatures book 1) and in Tiger’s Last Chance (Stranger Creatures book
3). The gruff coyote shifter really needed his own story.
Trevor has a cat named Chessie who likes to leave him gifts
of half-eaten mice and birds under his pillow. Kylie has several, brightly
colored tattoos. One of her favorites is of a tree with strange red flowers— a
reminder of the tree that marked the beginning of a hiking trail in the Blue
Ridge Mountains where she used to camp with her parents as a child. Most of
Kylie’s tattoos are in color because colors feel like music to her.
