I wrote a post the other day and it was an average post – maybe a page long. But, it turns out it was 2610 html “lines” long. 2,580+ lines of that code was not written by me.
This is a sample of what it looks like.
(no idea why it is blurry - it's a screenshot from my blog post.)
Where does it come from? Copy and Paste something from a document and into blog. This particular blog post had 4 different insertions put in, therefore the “zombie” html code was added each time. When I cleaned it out of the post – 2610 lines dropped to 29. Yes – 29!
I know the stuff comes from my Windows documents as I can direct type into my blog, and it doesn’t occur. It only happens when I open one of my documents, copy something and paste it into blog.
But I am playing with the html – I might screw things up. Been doing this for years and never a problem.
I bet you’re asking – do I need to do this? I doubt you need to worry about it as I am guessing there are numerous Blogger blogs where the owner has no clue this is happening.
Is it difficult to find this? No, go to the html view of your post. A large section (or numerous ones) will be in a different solid brown colour. Find the beginning. Find the end. Highlight and delete.
Why do I do it? Long ago, I stopped trusting massive corporations. No idea what info they are slipping into my blog. Are they collecting data?? Most likely. So, a simple highlight and delete removes it.
How did I discover this? I am not a techie. Html is an unknown language. There was a hiccup with my blog. I was trying to fix it and found a post full of this gibberish code. I had copy and pasted numerous things into that blog post– like different paragraphs of a book. Then deleted some of what I had pasted, but it seems the code didn’t go away. Once in the blog, it stayed until I delete it. That’s when I decided, nope, I don’t know what this is and it isn’t going to be in my blog.
I saved that blog post then went in and edited out the added html. I kept checking that my post looked ok in compose view and shrunk the amount of code down to a reasonable amount.
Does this happen in other blogs? I have no idea. I cannot access the html in my WordPress blog, and I have no other type of blog to check. So, if you can access the html code in your blog, check it out and then whatever you decided to do about it – do it. Clean it out. Ignore it.
And since this isn’t my personal blog, if you are wondering did I check the html - yes - was the added html there - yes - did I deleted it – of course.

Great post, Daryl! I absolutely loathe anything Microsoft, but we're forced to use it unless we want to use an Apple product, which is as bad.
Each time my PC updates, Microsoft adds all kinds of apps, which I have to delete to free up space. My new PC came with XBox - which I NEVER use. I asked the Geek Patrol to delete it. They said they couldn't. It's permanent and eats up space I could use for my own purposes.
Did I say I loathe Microsoft? With the heat of a billion suns I loathe their products. In a fair world - in a sane world - they'd be out of business and we'd get products that are good, not second-rate.
So tell me how you really feel about Microsoft????
