Of Gods and Vengeance: Unravel the threads of fate #epicromantasy #enemiestolovers

It is written in blood.
One of Her kind will betray Her.

In a world where mortals are at the whims of the capricious gods, a prophecy foretells treachery committed by one of their own, leading to the inevitable downfall of the once-mighty Titans. The Great Goddess Rhea, seeking retribution, dispatches Her vengeance goddess, Becuille, to the land of Hatti. She is charged with the daunting task of uncovering the origins of star metal, a substance fatal to the old gods, and finding the enigmatic Destroyer.

Disguised as a human slave in the royal palace, Becuille finds herself entwined with her master, Prince Callileon, plunging both into a treacherous world of power-hungry gods, formidable magic, and widespread betrayal. As tension mounts and loyalties are tested, Becuille faces an impossible choice between duty to her goddess and the stirrings of forbidden love for Callileon.

Warning: Of Gods and Vengeance is a Greek tragedy romantasy featuring star-crossed lovers. It is set in a brutal Bronze Age era where slavery, human sacrifice, and animal sacrifice were commonplace.

Of Gods and Vengeance is part of a series. Since it’s a prequel, it could be read first or as a standalone, but I recommend reading the books in this order:
Of Water and Dragons, Of Ravens and Wolves, Of Gods and Vengeance.

Excerpt:

“Strip her of her rags and leave the room,” her master ordered.

The large black man ripped off her dirty clothing, leaving her exposed to the golden-haired man’s piercing gaze. Becuille bit her lip, fighting her anger and frustration. The slave left the room, and she was alone with her new master. Unblinking, he examined her naked body. She felt like a beast being inspected for use as a brood mare again, but she refused to shrink before him.

“What have we here?” He reached for the dagger strapped to her thigh in a leather sheath.

“Please, it means a lot to me.”

“Please? Do you think by begging me I will allow you to keep it?” His icy stare chilled her.

Ah, there was that glimpse of brutality, and she remained quiet.

Her new master unclasped the thin belt and yanked the sheath from her thigh. “You can earn it back from me.” He turned to leave and paused, facing her. “I am called Callileon, but to you I am your Lord and Master. Do not forget that, slave.”

He left the room, and Becuille’s fierce glare penetrated his retreating back. She decided that she hated this man and hoped he was the one she was sent to kill.

Review Quote:

“Of Gods and Vengeance is a Greek tragedy featuring star-crossed lovers set in an era where slavery and human and animal sacrifice were commonplace.” This tragic tale takes you on a bumper ride nevertheless thrilling journey that you don’t want to come to an end. I have read a number of Kelly Heckart’s books and she’s an incredibly gifted author. For lovers of this genre, her books are a rare treat.

She thought she could leave her divine wrath behind her, but now she must confront her powerful enemies. Unable to escape her cursed immortal destiny, their idyllic world is about to be shattered, and their fierce bond put to the ultimate test. They will either rise together or fall.

Excerpt:

The Caitt priestess waited for Nemu in the deepest shadows. She gestured for her to sit beside her on a flat rock.

“You are one of the Ancient Ones.” Her voice sounded hollow, ringing through the pines and into the night.

“As are you.” Nemu searched her eyes for the truth, but the priestess could mask her thoughts well. “Why have you sent for me?”

The skinned wildcat head draped over hers like a hood, the fangs flashing sharp and deadly like twin crescent moons. The priestess’s eyes resembled a cat’s, unblinking and yellow in the darkness.

“I did not send for you. You came to me for an answer.”

A nighthawk screeched nearby.

“You know about my dreams.” Nemu swallowed hard.

“Do not follow the raven. Follow the wolf. The wolf will show you the way.” The night devoured her cryptic words.

“And I will know what the dreams mean?”

“You will know who you really are.” The gleam in her eyes softened, reflecting pity.

Nemu looked away for a moment. She turned back to the priestess and found herself sitting alone, the space beside her cold and empty.

Review Quote

“Heckart’s work offers beautiful poetic descriptions rich in detail. Reading this book is a sensual pleasure. It is especially a joy to read about the idyllic agrarian lifestyle and the sense of people’s connection to the land, to the tribe, and to the spirit world. The richness of detail in descriptions create a powerful aura that positively fills this world.”

Ambiorix is torn between his duty to Rome and his growing affection for a mystical Caledonian woman. He questions everything he’s been taught about the barbaric Celtic tribes.

Their worlds collide in a fury of fire, blood, and darkness.

Excerpt:

The ash trees stood around her, gray branches spread wide like open arms. She pressed her palm and cheek to the thin, furrowed bark of the trunk, silently calling to the spirit that inhabited the tree.

The leaves swayed back and forth, pushed by a light breeze. Vibrations coursed through her body and she closed her eyes, listening to the whispering of the trees.

The trees remembered what happened the last time the dragon was summoned.

A steamy, exciting PNR for Valentine's Day: Awakening: Shadow-walkers 1--Only 99 cents

This series was inspired by my time as a bass player in a hard rock all-female band. Making music is like magic to me.

Sometimes, the end is really the beginning.

Kate Wolf has messed up her life big-time. She destroyed her successful music career, her close friendships with her Hecate’s Fury bandmates, and her marriage. Now she is given a second chance to succeed as author Kaitlyn Storm. An offer to turn her book series into three movies should make her happy, but her troubled rock-star past continues to torment her.

When a snowstorm traps her in a haunted cabin with Kane Devlin, the hot Scottish movie star playing her hero, they awaken more than just passion. But before she can move on, Kate must let go of the guilt and shame holding her back.

Snippet:

Smiling, I stroked his cheek, caught up in the moment. Confronting that apparition had been kind of a thrill. He fought by my side like a gallant, brave warrior, and it really turned me on.

“Wish one of your young models were here with you now?”

He leaned down and kissed me, weakening my knees, then drew back. “There’s your answer,” he murmured in a rough voice.

Katherine walked into her daughter’s bedroom with a warm smile for the little girl. “And who do I find here?” she asked. “Is it a rock star, a fashion model or an award-winning actress?”

“Oh, mommy, you know who I am,” the girl said with a giggle. For just a moment Katherine’s breath caught and her heart overflowed with love for this four-year-old person. She and Cole had made this child, had conceived her in love, trust and respect, but it still seemed incomprehensible that she was as beautiful as she was, as sweet and wonderful as she was. Katherine could so clearly see Cole’s eyes and her mouth reflected in their daughter’s face, but there was more there that was a combination of them both, and therefore all Alyssa’s. Katherine had to remind herself that probably all parents felt their children were perfect and wonderful, but with their little Alyssa, she knew it was true beyond any doubt.

“Yes, I know who you are, my little love. You are queen of my heart, princess of my mind, ruler–”

“–of all I hold dear.” Alyssa finished the oft heard phrase in triumph. She had bouncy curls of brown hair that hung down to her chin, gleaming blue eyes and a pert nose. Her mouth was most often formed around a smile.

“You’re getting too smart for me, Munchkin. What story would you like to hear?” Katherine settled her daughter under the covers, and positioned herself at the head of the bed next to Alyssa’s pillow, so that the child could see the pictures in the book and also be in place to fall asleep.

Cinderella!”

“Okay, Cinderella it is.” Katherine reached for the book from the stack of those on the bedside table and opened it to the first page. “Once upon a–”

“No, mommy. You’ve got to start with the title.”

With a small smile Katherine turned to the title page and started over. “Cinderella.” She flipped back to the story. “Once upon a time…”

Minutes later, long before the clock had struck midnight and the glass slipper had been lost, Alyssa was sleeping. Katherine stood and moved her slightly, so that she was in the center of the bed. She smoothed Alyssa’s hair from her face and kissed her forehead, making sure that her stuffed bunny was firmly secured in her arm and that she was warmly covered. As Katherine turned, she saw Cole leaning against the doorjamb, watching her with a tender expression.

“You know that I think you’re the most beautiful woman on the face of the earth, but when I see you with Alyssa, it’s almost too much. You two are the most important things in my life.” Katherine turned out the bedside lamp and walked into Cole’s arms, stretching into him as he stroked her back and nuzzled her hair.

“As the two of you are to me,” Katherine responded. “Let’s go downstairs.” With Cole’s arm wrapped around her shoulders they made their way to the living room.

Cole had started a fire and the room was warm and softly lighted by the flames; crackling of the burning logs and popping as sap hit the heat of the fire were the only sounds.

Cole poured glasses of wine and they rested, Katherine against his chest in the circle of his arm, Cole leaning against the rounded arm of the sofa. They sat peacefully for several moments, staring into the fire. With his hand over her shoulder, Cole caressed Katherine’s breast; she rested her hand on his leg, with her elbow covering and lightly putting pressure on the bulge in his pants.

“Are you going to tell me a bedtime story now?” asked Cole.

“Would you like one?” He kissed the top of her head and nodded. “Okay, do you like Cinderella, too?”

“Sure. The adult version, however. I didn’t mind the children’s version when I was a child, although I always thought the prince was too much of a sissy. I thought she should find a good warrior to marry.”

“You would, you blood-thirsty man.”

“Now, I think the prince would be looking for a bit more in a wife than simple beauty and strange taste in shoes.” He looked at Katherine’s platform shoes. “Although unusual taste in footwear isn’t always a negative.”

“Thank you,” she said smartly.

He chuckled. “So, make sure that Cindy has all the requisites to be the wife of a prince.”

“And what might that entail, do you think?” Katherine sat up and turned so that she could see her husband.

“Make her like you.”

"The Cinderella Curse was just perfect for hopeless romantics like me. Even if you're not a hopeless romantic, Charlotte and Cooper's sweet and emotionally charged banter will definitely warm your heart. I definitely recommend reading this modern day Cinderella... with a twist!"

"I had forgotten how enjoyable it could be to read a fun and easy read with a perfect ending, a happily ever after. Don't expect though to be the usual read, the story is full of witty and funny repartee and Ms. Knight does know her men. She knows their sense of humor and their foibles, and the banter between good friends that become lovers. There is something so solid and balanced about this couple, her innocence vs. his knowledge, and he is a knight in shining armor. As I finished I smiled ..."

HARD AS A ROCK COWBOY by Lexi Post has released!

Hard as a Rock Cowboy

(Rocky Road Ranch: Book 2)

by Lexi Post

She’s the only thing standing in the way of the life he’s always wanted…

Brody Dunn is anxious to start his training as a wildlife manager and begin his new career away from Rocky Road Ranch. His father has agreed to release him from his promise to work on the ranch if he can convince the neighbors to sell their land.

When he discovers that the granddaughter of the elderly couple who owned the land has inherited it, and better yet, has lived in the city her entire life never knowing the land existed, he’s sure it will be easy getting her to sell.

Hannah Kingsley is shocked yet thrilled to discover she owns land in Four Peaks. Though it’s nothing but desert and an old casita, it’s all hers. Besides, it even comes with a knowledgeable and handsome neighbor! What could be better?

It doesn’t take long for her to realize Brody wants her to sell right away, yet the more she learns about her property, the town, and him, the more she knows this is the place for her. And just maybe, Brody’s the man for her as well. But can she get him to see what’s right in front of his nose, or will his one-track mind be his downfall?

Excerpt:

Brody looked to where Hannah pointed briefly before grabbing his waist again. “Yes.” He adjusted their course a bit and brought them within fifty feet of the building before halting.

“Oh, I can’t wait to see this!”

At Hannah’s exclamation, alarm bells went off. He got off the ATV and before he could say anything, she’d jumped off, only to stumble a bit. He grabbed her arm to help her regain her balance.

“Thank you. I didn’t realize my equilibrium was so delicate.”

He let go when she lifted her hands up to take off the helmet. She set it on the machine before turning to look at the adobe building barely discernible from the cacti and Goat’s Beard vines growing over it and against it.

“If it wasn’t so flat out here, I would have never noticed this. I wonder if it was here even before my grandparents bought the land.”

“My guess is it’s been here at least sixty years.” He’d hoped that would make her shy away, but that wasn’t her reaction at all. In fact, her eyes widened with glee.

“Wow. That’s just amazing.” With that, she started forward.

Quickly, he grabbed her arm. “Whoa there, where you going?”

“I’m going inside, of course.”

He planted his feet, still not letting go. “I wouldn’t suggest it. That building has been abandoned to the desert. That means nature could have taken it over including animals, reptiles, and insects.”

She blinked as if considering that for the first time. “Would any of them be dangerous. I mean, beside tarantulas. I do know they live out here.”

He called on his patience, of which he wasn’t known for. She was simply ignorant of the dangers of the Sonoran Desert. He let go of her arm and stepped between her and the building to face her. He wanted her to know how serious he was. “Yes, there could be tarantulas, but also rattlesnakes, raccoons, or even javelinas, not to mention the walls could cave in.”

She eyed the building, hopefully seeing what he saw. “I didn’t realize. I guess we’ll have to investigate carefully.”

As she stepped around him, he stood in shock for a moment before his senses caught on that he needed to protect her. Spinning around, he strode up next to her. “I wouldn’t advise going inside.”

She glanced at him but kept her focus on the building. “Thank you. I still want to see it.”

Beyond picking her up and carrying her back to the ATV, there was nothing he could do. It was her land and her old casita. Still, he wouldn’t let her get hurt. Luckily, she started by walking around the structure. She stopped and pointed away from it to a pile of rotted wood on the ground. “Was that the shed?”

“Yes. There was more wood, but a lot has rotted back into the ground.”

She didn’t respond, instead continuing her walk around the building. Finally, she stopped at the front door, which was made of thick ironwood being held on by rusty hinges. “It’s beautiful.”

He frowned, not sure he heard her right. “Did you say it’s beautiful?”

She pulled out her phone and took a picture. “Yes, the way nature has wrapped its arms around this manmade structure as if to protect it. Don’t you think it’s poignant?”

Staring at the vine covered walls and a mesquite that towered over the roof, he tried to see what she saw. But he couldn’t. “It definitely makes a statement…to be careful.”

She shook her head at him before moving forward toward the door.

His hand shot out before he could take it back, and she halted. “Is something wrong.”

“Just go slow. I don’t want you to get hurt.”

Her warm brown gaze softened. “I promise, I’ll be careful.”

Nodding, he curled his fingers into fists as she pushed a few vines aside, ducked beneath them, and opened the door.
