Writing Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thrillers by January Bain

 Now that I have your attention, Good Morning to you!

And what a fine day it is! I have discovered the best way to beat the winter blahs, is to write up a storm.

Consequently, I have been busy writing in my new favorite genre: post-apocalyptic survival thrillers. The surreal experience of such an event creates a story filled to the brim with conflict, suspense and tension. The likes I have never known before.

Of course, at the same time, I read other authors in the same genre, immersing myself in the journey. Non-fiction as well, reading about Nuclear War, EMP events, Sun flares, and ecological disasters like super-volcanoes.  It certainly keeps the world at bay!

I thought today I'd share some of my words from my new series with you:

Title: WHEN KILLING RULES

We can have any world we imagine.

 Day 6: Wednesday, May 28, 2055

Near Anchor, Alaska

5:33 p.m.

 Connor Hale’s hands were clenched around the steering wheel of The Shark while he kept a tight watch on the roadway ahead, checking for any signs of threat. The seconds ticked down in his head. He was at the helm of the massive armored vehicle Ben Carter had loaned him to get his precious cargo home safely to Braveheart Horse Ranch. They were less than thirty minutes out now. It had begun to sleet freezing rain, making it difficult to see the edges of the road and turning it into a slippery, icy sludge, the squeaky windshield wipers unable to keep up. His view was limited at best. The White Mountains stretched out alongside them, hazy, gray and uncaring of the terrible chaos humans had created for themselves a scant six days ago. Yes, it might be AI at fault, but who had originally created the sentient character? None other than humans, without a thought as to the chaos they had unleashed on the world.
