December is a time for family and gift giving. For me it's also the month when I must finish a book I've been writing for many months. The slow start began with a trip to the hospital and surgery for a broken neck. After anesthesia one is foggy for days and days. Finally found the way into the book. The Horror Writer's Demise.
Why this book when I don't read or write horror. I don't even enjoy those scary horror movies. One of my granddaughters, even as a child enjoyed those movies. Once when she was six, she went with her mother to one. I asked how she could stand that. She said they were just madeup stories. She pointed to the evening news and said "That's really scary."
This story is the start of a new mystery series. I have two more planned and I'm sure more will come up as I write. There is the historical author's snuff boxes and the erotic author's nightgowns so far.
Starting a new series can be hard . Since one knows its's a series, they must decide what to reveal in book one and what to hold back until the next books arrive. What coms up in the first book is the heroine is a single mother, operates We Search finding references for college professors and hopefully writers. The hero is a police detective with one son and a sister who watches the child. We learn his wife died three years ago but very little about why and his reaction,

You had a broken neck, Janet? That's awful. I hope you're healing well. Good for you for starting a new mystery series. I can't wait to hear more about it. :)
