Although I have published more than twenty books with eXtasy Books, it is always a pleasure to sign a new contract. For me, the signing is the final act of the creative process that led to a new story, a new plot, a new development of the main characters of my Nick & Jacklyn series. Admittedly, the writing process took much longer than the previous installments and I had long breaks in between. Real life interfered with my writing time, so I lost the thread several times and had to start over. Once the plot is complete, I like to write the story scene by scene to stay with the characters. It’s much harder when I have to stop, do something else, and then resume after a week or two of unwanted interruptions.
While rereading the entire book before sending it to the publisher, I changed part of the last chapter because the first attempt was much too dramatic and ruined the romantic ending. I let the book sit for another day to discuss with my muse how we could write a moment of tension but then resolve it nicely. As always, my muse understood my inner turmoil and had a great idea I could use.
Looking back, I’m pleased with the result and hope the book will entertain readers and take them on a journey with Nicolas and Jacklyn.
Let me introduce you to a scene from Sudden Death (book #9 in the series with Nick & Jacklyn) and tell me your thoughts in the comments.
You can only have fun if others let you.
Excerpt
As Leonard walked up the driveway of Roman’s home, he remembered with fondness those times he’d met Roman, and now it was time to get his reward. He rang the doorbell and waited breathlessly.
When Roman opened the door, he flashed a surprised smile. Leonard loved that juvenile smile that came to the man so naturally.
Leonard reacted when Roman lifted his brows and asked once more what he wanted. “Hello, Roman, mind if I come in? I’ve got some information about your account.”
“Information, huh? One that couldn’t wait another day?”
He made room for Leonard to enter his home. “I just made a cup of coffee. Do you want some?”
“Yes, that would be great.”
Roman lifted and dropped his hand, then closed the door. “Be my guest.”
Roman led the way toward the kitchen on bare feet. His sweat pants clung to his well-formed buttocks and offered a glimpse at his cleft.
Leonard was mesmerized by the view of the man’s muscled back and the broad shoulders that needed no protective gear to be impressive. Leonard wiped his mouth. He was horny. He wanted Roman to turn to him and whisper that he had waited for him for a long time. Leonard would answer that he was where he had wanted to be for months.
His dress pants were tight suddenly, and he knew he couldn’t cover the erection. He had brought an attaché case but no coat. It would be useless anyway. His heart ached just looking at Roman’s back. His imagination had been running wild on the ride to the man’s home, and now all of his dreams would turn to reality. He would finally feel the warm skin under his hands, and he would kiss those lovely lips.
Leonard swooned when Roman turned around at the kitchen cabinet to ask, “How do you want your coffee?”
“Black,” Leonard stuttered when, once again, Roman waited for his answer with a polite frown. I want you. Right here, with nothing on your perfect body. I want you to bend over the table so that I can fuck you the way I want to. Leonard’s heart was about to explode with lust watching Roman fill two mugs with coffee. He added milk and half a spoon of sugar to his cup, and Leonard fell into a trance as his would-be lover stirred the coffee. Not for the first time Leonard admired the man’s slender hands and wrists. Roman was so young, the workout affected his body but not yet the hands. It would come, and Leonard thought of those hands on his shoulders, along his ribs. A ripple of pleasure surged through his body. “Thank you,” he said with feeling.
“You’re welcome.” Roman sat down, sipped coffee, and looked at Leonard, a half-smile playing around his lips. “What’s up? Any new business plan you want to discuss with me?”
Leonard had forgotten about his pretense. His gaze was glued to Roman’s neckline and shoulders. His hands wanted to go where his look already was...
