Cedarwood Pride Box Set, Volume 1 by Megan Slayer

The Cedarwood Pride series

Home to Cedarwood

Will the naysayers drive Colin and Jordan apart, or will the two make their way together in this small town?

Ripples in Cedarwood

One never intended on being a father and the other isn’t looking for a relationship, but they’re about to find out that what they want and need might be the last thing they expected.

Scoring in Cedarwood

Tanner Fox wasn’t sure being traded to the Cedarwood Wildcats was the right path for his life, but if Dr. Dane Bloom is part of the package, then he’ll play for keeps.

Rainbows Over Cedarwood

The moment Ashley gave up looking for the right man, he showed up in the form of restaurateur Colt Harrison. Sexy has never looked this good.

Rocking Cedarwood

Can the geeky teacher moonlighting as a rock-and-roll metal god find the one man to see both sides and want it all with him?

Life in Cedarwood goes a little slower than most places. The people are friendly and the faces familiar. The schools are small, the stores quaint and everyone knows everyone else’s business.

The men of Cedarwood want love and happiness for themselves and their families. They can have it if they open their heart and trust their instincts.

Anything is possible in Cedarwood.

Book 3 in the Billion Dollar Wolf series

Paranormal M/M Contemporary Romance

Novella

Pride Publishing

Two lone wolves finding common threads and love.

Grove Meade likes his computers and his solitary life. He can come and go as he pleases and only answers to the pack leaders when they need his specialized skills. He won’t deny he’s one lonely wolf, but love isn’t in his future, right? When he meets CJ Johns, everything changes and his world is just a bit too small.

CJ Johns has seen a lot in his life—the death of his family, the destruction of his pack and the loss of pack lands. He’s determined not to let those devastations get him down, but when he’s forced to live off the land that’s not even his, his spirits sink. He can’t even convince his wolf to come forward. The one bright spot in his life is Grove. He knows little about the fellow wolf shifter, but he’s smitten.

When a problem from CJ’s past threatens his future, it’s up to CJ and Grove to decide whether they want the blossoming feelings between them to last or fade like the winter snow.

Reader advisory: This book contains mentions of a sexual predator, coercion, murder, homophobia, and non-nurturing parenting.

“I meant what I said. I want to hire you,” Grove said. “We’ll get your stuff and you’ll live with me. I need someone to handle a few tasks for me.”

“What kind of tasks?” CJ asked between bites.

“Don’t want the job?”

“I do, but I’d like to know what I’m doing before I accept.” CJ stuffed a piece of bacon into his mouth.

“Cleaning up, some laundry, stuff like that,” he said. “Are you interested? I’ll give you a place to live and clothes, plus food and internet. You’ll be able to do your artwork, too.”

CJ ate a bit more and seemed to mull over the opportunity. “You’re not afraid of me? I shift.”

“So do I.” He thought they’d established that they were both wolves.

“Oh yeah.” CJ put his fork down. “I’m so used to dealing with people who are just humans, not shifters. Sorry.”

“Don’t apologize.” He cut up his salad. “How long has it been since your last shift?”

“Six months.” CJ finished the bacon. “Do you shift a lot?”

“I’ve tried to tamp down my wolf.” That sounded so silly. Why restrain the wolf? He had a power few others had and he didn’t seem to want it.

“I did, too. If no one knew, then no one would try to kill me.”

“Well, if you come with me, I’ll protect you. Promise. You’ll have space to relax, exist and run if you want to shift in return for hard work.”

CJ cut his burger in half. “You’re serious?”

“Deadly. I can’t let you get hurt in the elements and since you don’t have a pack, you’ll need protection. You should be part of a pack and we have space. Why not join us? I can help you and I want to.”

CJ rested his hands on his lap “I do want to belong.” He hesitated. “Can I leave at any time?”

“If you want to.” He didn’t see why that should happen, but he’d give CJ his freedom if he so chose.

“Can I bring my pet?”

“Pet?” A wolf shifter with a pet? “What kind?”

“My cat.” CJ didn’t move. “I can’t leave her behind.”

“Sure.” He’d never had a pet and wasn’t sure how hard it’d be, but he’d give it a try. “I’ll ensure you’ve got supplies for her, too.”

CJ nodded. “Then I’ll work for you. I’ll put in honest work for honest pay.”

It wasn’t the most eloquent way to put it, but he didn’t care. “Then we’ve got a deal.”

CJ frowned. “It’s starting to rain harder.”

“Sure is.” He nodded to the food. “Why don’t we get it to go and we’ll eat at my place? We’ll retrieve your things and your cat, then head to where it’s safe.”

CJ’s smile returned. “Deal.”

“If you promise…” He fought the urge to roll his eyes. He had no doubt he’d find someone handsome like Aeren, but whatever he’d meet at the club was there to entertain and take his money—something he didn’t want. He needed a connection, not just mindless sex.

“I do.” He closed Skye’s hand around the card. “Just give it a try. Visit and if you’re that put off, then don’t go back.”

“I’ll visit then.” And he’d probably not go back. “Thanks. I’ll be here a little later for the show. It’s oddball, but it’s intriguing.”

“Contemplations in Skin?” Alan frowned. “You do realize Jelly and Quentin have a thing, right? That’s why it’s being shown tonight and one night only. It’s so Quentin can convince Jelly to sleep with him.”

“That’s messed up.” And sad. He thought he knew Quentin better than that. “Why would he book a show that’s so out there just to get a date? That’s not how the gallery works.” It wasn’t how he wanted his money spent, either.

“Don’t rag him too hard. He’s lonely and even I thought he and Jelly had a connection,” Alan said. “Just let it be.”

“Send him to the club.” He’d give the card to Quentin right now.

“Quentin isn’t the right clientele.”

“He’s not obscenely wealthy?” God, he hated the way that sounded, even if it was true.

“No, he’s not good at keeping his mouth shut. It’s an exclusive club and meant for discerning men. If you’re going to blab about the club or what goes on, then they won’t ask you back. You’re the kind of guy they want—sweet, quiet and discerning,” Alan said. “Just give it a shot.”

“Fine.” He shook his head. “I’ll try it this weekend, but I’m coming to the show tonight. I paid for the damn thing and I might as well get my money’s worth by viewing it in its full glory.”

“And gawk at Aeren.” Alan chuckled. “Go. He’ll still be here.”

“I will.” He should thank Alan for the referral, but he wasn’t sure what to think about it. A club to pick up men. An escort service? He had no idea. Did he want to go? Did he not want to? He’d never know if he wouldn’t like the place if he didn’t visit…

Why not give the club a chance? He might find the man of his dreams.

Anything’s possible.

Walker Ray has been friends with Philip’s half-brother for years and isn’t afraid of shifters, but he’s not good in relationships. He’s not rich and likes to work with his hands. “My parents split when I was ten and I grew up with only my mom in the picture. My dad moved to Florida and we haven’t seen him in years.”

“That’s terrible.” He wasn’t his father’s biggest fan, but he couldn’t imagine not having him in his life when he’d been alive.

“It wasn’t so bad. My father wasn’t the greatest influence. He wanted to sleep around and told my mother they could be friends while he ‘saw’ his other friends.” Walker shrugged. “His version of seeing meant sleeping with anyone he wanted to, but she was supposed to sleep with only him.”

“That’s messed up.” He parked, then shut off the engine. “But I get it. My father did the same thing. He seemed to believe he should be fruitful and multiply no matter what. It was hard on my mother, hard on Dixon’s mother… It wasn’t fair.”

“No, it’s not.” Walker left the car and followed him into the building. “I’ve never been here before. I’m assuming it’s good.”

“It is. Homey, filling and worth the price.” He nodded to Tara, behind the counter, then strode over to one of the empty booths. “They take care of you and it’s economical. Plus, they’re all shifters, so we’re safe.”

“You’re not safe otherwise?” Walker asked. “I’ve got so much to learn.”

“It’s just about dynamics. If I were to go out to another pack’s land, I’d be at risk because I’m a rival. Humans don’t tend to come in here because they don’t know about the place, so that helps keep the diner safer for us.” He needed to stop babbling. “I’m sorry. Apparently I don’t know when to quit.”

“Quit what? Talking?” Walker accepted the menu. “I don’t mind. I spend a lot of time on my own. Being single tends to force the issue.”

“Where are you staying? You said he’d tossed you out.” It wasn’t his business, but he and his wolf cared about Walker. “Sorry. I overstepped.”

“No.” Walker toyed with the plastic. “I was with Ed for over three years, but he had certain ideas as to how I should live my life. He liked the money I made when I worked, but he wasn’t fond of how I worked. A real man doesn’t need to use his hands. He should use his brains. I do use them when I’m building, but stairs don’t fashion themselves.” He tensed as Tara approached the table.

“Can I get you something to drink?” she asked. “Hi, handsome.”

“A coffee,” Philip replied. “What would you like?”

“Water is fine.” Walker blushed a deeper shade of red.

“Make that two and we’ll decide what we’d like by the time you come back,” Philip said. “Thanks.”

“Any time.” Tara left them alone.

“Are you okay?” Philip asked. “Walker?”

“I’m fine.” Walker folded his hands on the menu. “Just out of practice at being in public.”

“Then I’ll have to help you knock off the rust.” And he’d love every second. He liked their conversation and time spent with Walker. The wolf liked him, too.

Maybe Dixon had known what he was doing when he put them together.

Maybe.
