Good Morning to you!
January Bain here from the cold Canadian prairies to say hi. And has it been cold! So cold all I want to do is stay inside and write which works out perfectly when you have deadlines to make. 😄I trust you had a nice holiday season and I want to wish you all the best in 2026!
This month I have a special box set coming out from Rough Edges Press, an imprint of Wolfpack Publishing. In honour of the occasion I wrote some verses about the hero, Connor Hale. Here we go!
The Ballad of Connor Hale
by January Bain
The sky went dark, the wires failed, the world fell into rust,
He laid his father in the ground, to ashes and to dust.
With old-time westerns in his pack and honor in his chest,
Young Connor lives his lonely life by the Code of the West.
A mother and her little one are trapped in winter’s bite,
So Connor takes the mountain trail to lead them toward the light.
A survivalist with steady hands, he walks the long, hard mile,
To meet the chaos face-to-face with a brave and weary smile.
He’ll face the wolves in human skin, the cruel and lawless breed,
For kindness in a broken world is a rare and heavy seed.
He carries still a teenage ghost, a love they tore away,
And vows to find her face again at the breaking of the day.
The wilderness has claimed the world where iron used to stand,
But honor is the heavy steel within his calloused hand.
When history forgets the soul and shadows start to rise,
The hope of all humanity reflects in Connor’s eyes.
Will he win his war, the family safe, but find the battles still not done,
For to save his world, he must stop all villains, a true Police Chief’s son.
A mother’s love, a rancher’s heart, a world without a compass,
He carves a path through shadow’s dark and stands against the lawless.

Major congrats on your upcoming box set, January! :)
I feel your pain about the cold. I'm in Southern Cali and it's been raining and getting colder by the day. 56 degrees at night. I know that likely sounds balmy to a Canadian, but w/temps generally in the 80s here, it's freaking COLD now! :(
Exactly, it's all about what it feels like to the individual! I trust you are keeping well and wish you a very happy New Year!
And thanks for the good wishes Tina!
