A Romantasy For The Night That Lingers…The Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice asks nothing of us but this: stay, breathe, and keep the fire.

Last Sunday, just two days ago, the Winter Solstice came to the western hemisphere.

What is more sensual in the turning of the seasons than the Longest Night of the year? It is a night of the ultimate slow burn of evening fires including  the flames of nightime passion.

In ancient times fires were lighted and carefully kept. Evergreen branches were brought inside as quiet proof that life endured. People drew closer to the warmth of thierr loved ones and the warm body of their lover or mate.

Here is the book I wrote that I set in Ancient Wales During the Winter Solstice

Sometimes a secret must be revealed to move from the winter of love into its spring.

When Roman soldiers steal every grain of winter food from her tribe, Druidess Bronwen has no choice but to run. Hunted through the forest, she ducks into a cave to hide—only to discover she isn’t alone.

A man is already there.

Handsome.
Silent.
Dangerous in a way that makes her pulse quicken instead of flee.

He offers to help her.
He ignites a spark she can’t ignore.
And she knows—instinctively—that he’s hiding something.

What Bronwen doesn’t know is that her whispered prayers have drawn Artaois, the Bear God, into that cave. Choosing flesh over fur and desire over truth, he pretends to sleep until she finds him. Though he can transform into a bear, he keeps his secret buried, determined to spend the longest night of the year with the woman who unknowingly called to him.

As the Winter Solstice approaches—the longest night of the year—Art must find a way to save Bronwen’s people from starvation without revealing what he truly is.

And when Bronwen finally discovers his secret…

Will she leave their fragile romance out in the cold?
