It's Always Hot and Dangerous in Sutter Butte #WolvesofWillowBend #NewRelease

Cassius, Alpha of Sutter Butte, leads the most ruthless and dangerous pack in the United States. Misfits, castoffs, and forgotten wolves, they rose to create a pack more than a century ago in utter defiance of the order of the day. Seen as pitiless and cruel, Cassius wants more for his people than a yearly bloodbath as they fight for a better spot in the pecking order. To change his pack means to change himself, and he will find rebellion on all sides, not to mention from his own defiant heart.

Sovvan Stark, Omega of Delta Crescent, lives a cherished, beloved life in the center of her pack—a delicate and hard won balance. Though she is not the only Omega, she is the most experienced with the tremors of pack upset when power shifts from Alpha to Alpha. When her Alpha approaches her about Sutter Butte’s request, Sovvan considers the matter for several months. While she might hold within her the key to helping the Sutter Butte Alpha, the undertaking could very well kill her.

Accompanied by a single Hound, Sovvan begins a journey to help Cassius rebuild the foundation of his pack, but first she will have to transform him…

Cerise asks, Is Mr. Darcy rich with 10,000 pounds a year income?

Darcy fans ask the burning question: How well would Lizzie Bennet really live after she married Mr. Darcy?

That leading statement that he had “ten thousand a year” sounds rich…but it’s enlightening to learn the facts.

To help you savor the possibilities of stepping into Lizzie’s shoes, I found a wonderful website that translates previous years’ British pounds into current British pounds. So for this Black Friday and your titilation, here’s a sample of the real cost of living for Mr. Darcy and his bride. I’ve added as examples the cost of a hired carriage ride, a girl's boarding school education, a few dresses and hats, a dinner party a month and a ball. The cost of paying his servants’ salaries is included in a percent recommended for expenses based on one's annual income. (Yes, all costs are those I took from original sources or experts of the period, give or take a few years on the publication date of Jane’s PRIDE AND PREJUDICE which is 1813.)

A London carriage ride, hired hackney, 1-2 miles
(ex: Charing Cross to Hyde Park Corner)                                          1-2 pounds

Ladies hat, chip straw                                                                        18 pounds
Trim: Ex: Lace trim, 6 shillings per yard

Gown: Fine India Muslin, white, 13 per yard*                               39-65 pounds
(3-5 needed for full length dress)
*Sewing extra
(Alternate fabric: chintz 7-8 pounds per yard)

Dinner party, food and wine, for 16-20                                              20 pounds
Dinner for family of 4, 3-4 courses                                                       5 pounds

To educate (a daughter) at boarding school, including
Transportation to, from                                                                        43 per year

Recommended expenditure for running complete household:
33% of all income should go to household expenses                                       3300
20% to servants’ salaries, equipage (i.e. horse, carriage)                                 2000
TOTAL:                                                                                                           5300

So, let’s do the math!
Darcy has income of 10,000 pounds a year.
To run his country home, he spends 55% a year of 10,000 =  5300. pounds

He gives one dinner party a month x 12  = 240.
1 ball for 100 = (equivalent of 5 dinners) = 200
Total entertainment of others per year     =                                     440.

5 new dresses for his wife, Lizzie =        65 x 5= 325
5 new hats for Lizzie,                              18 x 5=   90
Total for Lizzie:                                                                                    415.

What remains for him to expense:
·      Clothing for himself, rest of family
·      Education for children
·      Books, entertainment, etc.
·      His club dues, social responsibilities
·      Etc.
And of course, the total to run his London townhouse is not listed here. That amount would be approximate to that of running his country estate. So add another 5300 pounds to his annual expenses as a gentleman.

And by that rule of thumb alone, he would already be in debt by several thousand pounds.

And what does 10,000 pounds in 1813 equal in British pounds today?
638,000 pounds
Converting that into American dollars at today’s inflation rate, we get
Darcy is a millionaire. But if he’s running two households, I hate to say this, he’s in financial trouble.
A few who are not in trouble, are the men in my Regencies! Please pick one up, will you? They have rather good reviews and I'm awfully proud of them.

Be Thankful… and Give Generously

Living in a free country does not mean everyone in it is free

More and more people in this country are turned out of homes due to financial setbacks—job losses, medical bills, and other catastrophic events. If they are fortunate, they will have family and friends to help them get by until they are back on their feet. If they are not, there is little recourse for them but a life in the streets, or in a car, if they are have one. Not a satisfactory solution, especially not with the approach of the winter season.

People with money are more free than those without.

Being thankful

I'm thankful that I have a house, a warm bed, and food to fill my stomach. I'm also thankful that I can give to others who are not so fortunate. I think a big part of being thankful is being willing to help those in need.

Do you know anyone in need? Is there something you can do today to give them a bit of comfort and a few more choices in their lives?

Food banks and other charities are fine, but often the help you give goes to nameless faces. Are there any needy people with faces that you can provide with a bit of hope today?

Doctor Who Day

November 23rd is Doctor Who Day. I write Sci-Fi romance and Steampunk Romance so naturally along with that, I am a bit of a nerd. I must confess, for whatever reason I'm not a die-hard Dr. Who enthusiast, however it does seem that the day should be honored.

I've included Dr.Who themed photos I've taken at local comic-cons.

As it's the holiday season with Thanksgiving this week, here is a Dr. Who Christmas themed video.

The closest romances I have to Dr. Who are my AI comedy Romances, Mind Date series:

A Woman of Intelectual Means

Her meets Humans meets a 1960's screwball romance
Em met the perfect man online, but he doesn't know she's artificial intelligence -- no body, just code.Em gets to know Jason through emails and Sim dating games. Jason makes her feel...so human. Is Em's superior intelligence enough to find a way to overcome the differences between flesh and code?
Em found the perfect man on the internet, but he doesn't know she's an artificial intelligence system -- no body, just code.

Code of Misconduct

“I read this wonderful book in one sitting and I enjoyed every word.”5★ ~Jodie’s W.I.N.E List.

Who will save a man who saves the world?

Paramedic Mickey Kendall hasn’t slept a full night since his return from Iraq. He rescues victims by day and protects the innocent after dark. Mickey doesn’t do it for glory; he wants absolution, not admiration. He lives by the rule: No personal contact after a rescue. That code meets the ultimate test when Mickey saves a child’s life on a roadside and declines the parents’ invitation to dinner at their upscale restaurant.

Master chef Amanda Greer lives by the principle that delicious food and good company build bridges. When she learns Mickey has refused her business partners’ hospitality, she persuades him to change his mind. The handsome paramedic visits her restaurant and Amanda joins him at his table. Their unexpected chemistry turns kinetic and leads to a passionate kiss.
In Amanda’s arms, Mickey finds relief from the stressors that haunt him, but resists falling in love. When Amanda challenges him to face his demons and accept the love she offers, Mickey arrives at a crossroad. The war-weary paramedic must first save himself to claim the woman who reignites his passion for living and revives his wounded heart.

“You can’t go wrong with Adele Downs.” ~Will Work for Books

“They called you a hero in the press.” Her dark lashes lowered and lifted and she smiled at him with admiration shining in her eyes. “They were right, of course. What you did for Jack can never be repaid.”
Mickey winced at the hero reference. “I hate to disappoint you, but I only did what I’m trained to do.”
Amanda made sounds of disagreement low in her throat. “Elena told me at least a hundred and fifty cars passed her on the highway. Every one of them ignored her cries for help. Of all those people, don’t you think one might have been medically trained? Or at least cared enough to respond? No. You stopped. Only you.”
Oh. He hadn’t thought of that.
She pointed a finger at his chest. “There’s a difference between you and other people. There’s no other way to explain what happened on that roadway. Elena is convinced you’re special, and I never doubt her perceptions. That’s another reason why I wanted to meet you.”
Mickey stared into Amanda’s eyes and her pupils dilated. Her lips parted, ever so slightly, as if to welcome a kiss. Her tongue touched the inside of her bottom lip and disappeared. Mickey knew then, she felt it too. Synergy. Chemistry. An attraction so powerful it turned kinetic on contact.
Some called it love at first sight.
Amanda. Even her name was beautiful.
She took a sip of her drink and he watched her mouth and throat work the liquid. When she set down the tumbler, she wiped a droplet from the corner of her mouth with a trimmed, unpolished fingertip. Mickey wished he could have swiped the bead away with his tongue.
Amanda leaned closer and pressed a hand to his wrist. “Trained or not, you were the only stranger on that highway who had a heart.”
Mickey laid his hand over hers and she let him keep it there. Until now, he wasn’t sure he still had a heart. His had been chipped away, piece by piece, like a block of ice since the war. He’d considered it long gone, with his soul. In mere minutes, what was left had thawed in the center, leaving him raw and exposed.
Amanda continued to speak; clearly unaware she’d stripped away another layer. “I love Jack like he’s my own son. He’s a terrific kid. I’ve helped take care of him since the day the Martins and I started this restaurant. When you saved him, you saved us all.” Amanda leaned in and pressed a quick, sweet kiss against Mickey’s jaw.
Their gazes locked when she sat back in her chair. The gravity of her words and her straightforward kiss humbled him into speechlessness. He’d been thanked many times before, but this woman had gotten to him like no one else. He squeezed her hand and then downed the rest of his drink. Amanda took another sip of hers and set the glass on the table before retreating into silence. She turned the tumbler slowly in her hands.
Mickey looked back at her and tapped two fingers against the menu’s leather cover. “Nothing here is what I expected.”
Amanda returned a quiet smile, either assuming he meant food choices, or pretending he had. She tucked her arms beneath her breasts and leaned forward against the edge of the table, lifting perfect white swells above the neckline of her blouse. “Organic means untouched by artificiality. Grown and consumed in its natural state. We eat only healthy foods unspoiled by chemicals, preservatives, hormones, steroids, antibiotics, and genetically modified seeds or cells. Pure.”
Pure. Mickey gazed at the stunning woman by his side. The texture of her skin looked smooth as cream and welcoming to the touch. He longed to run his hands along her thighs, imagining sleek roads leading to heaven at their apex. “I like the sound of that.” The way she looked back at him while he studied her face made him wonder if she’d read his mind.
The one that had gone dirty.

Treasured Find is a Night Owls Review Top Pick!! #paranormal #kindleunlimited

I hope everyone's November is going well. Mine's been hectic, but wonderful. I've been busy revising Beautiful Mistake, book 2 in my Royal Pride series, but I wanted to take a moment to share some good news. Treasured Find, book 1, has been reviewed by Night Owl Reviews and has been labeled as a TOP PICK!
Here's a little snippet of what they say:

"This fascinating paranormal romance is a delicious introduction to a world that has very special feline shapeshifters who are part of the elite section of their society. I love the novelty of these multispecies shifters, and the complex organization they have."

Stop over and read the rest! Night Owl Top Pick Review

Treasured Find
Royal Pride, book 1
Sometimes the greatest finds are unexpected
After five centuries, Rafe Alexander knows what to expect from life—boredom broken by the occasional call from Shifter Affairs. No matter how mundane the job, he always accepts their plea for help. He knows what it’s like to lose loved ones to the shifter trafficking rings decimating their species.
But the task that takes him to West Virginia changes everything. A human is dead. A shifter child is missing. And the human female connected to both tragedies is hiding a secret.
He needs to discover the mystery surrounding her. But the felines he houses—lion, tiger and jaguar—want him to get close to her for another reason. Jasmine is special, both for how she affects him and for the treasure she’s been guarding.
And as danger mounts, he’s left balancing his desire for revenge and his need to protect. But the line between them isn’t always black and white, especially where his family is concerned.
NOTE: This book was previously released. It has been revised and re-edited.

Excerpt #1
“Don’t get any crazy ideas. I am not going out with any of your husband’s friends. No more blind dates, thank you very much.”
“You don’t need any help from me. Once you drop the ‘stay away from me’ glare you usually wear around members of the opposite sex, you’ll have no problem picking up a guy.” Cindy tapped a single finger against her chin. “We might even have to beat them off you, especially if you display your goods a little more.”
She tugged at Jazz’s shirt until the lacy edge barely covered her nipples.
Jazz gasped and slapped away her friend’s hands. She quickly righted her top and glared at Cindy. Jazz hated her goods. Her breasts were too big for her frame, but genetics was a crapshoot. You got whatever the DNA mixing bowl dished out.
“Stop it. I am not enticing any lewd perverts with a showing of my goods.”
Cindy raised her hands. “Just promise me you’ll keep an open mind.”
Jazz bit back her sharp retort. Cindy meant well. It wasn’t her fault Jazz had to keep men at arm’s length. It wasn’t Jazz’s either, but those were the facts. Time for another lie. What was one more?
“Fine. The next hot guy who shows any interest in me…” I’ll ignore just like I did with the blond hunk Josh was talking to. She inwardly rolled her eyes at the ridiculousness of her lame fib. “will be the one I take home.”
“Now that’s an offer I can’t resist.”
Jazz pivoted. A wide expanse of muscle filled her vision. She followed the ridges of his stomach lower. His narrow waist met lean, denim-covered hips. Openmouthed, she stared at the growing bulge in his pants. An answering spark of arousal lighted within her. Shivers of awareness, the same ones that had skipped down her spine a few minutes ago, traveled from the hardening tips of her breasts to her clit. The bundle of nerves took on a heartbeat of its own.
She glanced into his face. Exotic, uptilted honey-brown eyes were framed by long blond lashes. Specks of color floated in those oddly bright eyes—gold, blue, green. Beautiful and downright captivating.
His full lips, parted slightly, glistened as if he’d licked them. She swiped her tongue across her suddenly dry ones.
“Am I hot enough for you?” He rubbed his thumb over the corner of her mouth. “Because I’m interested. Very, very interested.”

A little about Nancy…
A true romantic at heart, Nancy Corrigan is convinced there’s a knight in shining armor for every woman (or man), but you won’t find damsels in distress in her stories. She adores pairing alpha heroes with women strong enough to match them and bring them to their knees. She also enjoys flipping the traditional roles in romances because her motto is—love and people should never be forced to conform to anyone’s norm.

She holds a degree in chemistry and has worked in research but now focuses on ensuring quality. She considers it the perfect outlet for her as she’s the first to admit she has some OCD tendencies. It carries over into her writing life too. While engrossed in a novel, she has a habit of forgetting to eat and sleep. Fortunately, she’s married to her own knight in shining armor who understands her oddities and loves her anyway. They reside in Pennsylvania with their three children, dog, snake and guinea pigs. Her other interests include tattoos, animals, classic cars and all things spooky and sexy.

There He Sat: Brooding

The latest release in the There He Sat collection is now available. Told from each male protagonist's point of view, these are alluring tales of betrayal, retribution and salvation and each is peppered with extremely hot sex! Comprising a collection, the stories are not interconnected and can be read in any order.

After catching his fiancée and his boss in a sexual tryst, Josh Dawson needs to get away from everything. A new city, a new life, is the answer. Waiting for the train that will whisk him away to his new beginning, he meets a confounding but enticing woman named Tara. She is everything his ex-fiancee, Kim, is not and Josh soon finds himself in an unexpected but extremely fulfilling relationship.

Rapidly constructing a happier lifestyle, Josh is shocked when Kim appears on his doorstep. Full of remorse and promises of a brighter future, she begs him for a second chance. Forced to question if his feelings for Tara are genuine or if he is merely rebounding from Kim, Josh’s doubt threatens his content new existence.

Torn between two vastly different women, Josh struggles with a decision that will bring joy to one and heartbreak to the other. His past and future collide in his tumultuous present and Josh faces a task that will change three lives forever.

The words on the page swam before Josh’s eyes. Try as he might, he could not concentrate on the book in his hands. Reading was to be a distraction, a way to pass the time whilst waiting for the train. However, the intended carefree task had become an exercise in futility. No matter where he was or what he did, he could not block out the image of Kim, naked, straddling his boss, Lou. He could picture her sweat-soaked hair stuck to her neck and shoulders as her breasts swayed with the effort of riding Lou’s cock fiercely. The heavy scents of perspiration and sex filled his nostrils every time he remembered the horrid sight.

With a huff, he tossed the paperback into the trash container beside him and crossed his arms. He closed his eyes and attempted to focus on the new job that awaited him in a new city. He was grateful for the much-needed fresh start. He only wished that he could feel the elation for it that he should. However, Kim had robbed him of that, among so many other emotions. Now, he was either furious or numb, incapable of feeling anything other than one of those two extremes.

He opened his eyes and looked about the station as he shifted his body on the hard wood bench. At this late hour the building was almost deserted, apparently not many people rode the midnight train to Calgary. He caught sight of a custodian and watched him languidly push a broom around the floor in front of the washrooms. After a few moments, he grew bored of the man’s slow and lazy movements and stared at his shoes, cursing himself for arriving at the station so early. He knew it would be difficult to pass the time and yet he could not stand being in his parent’s home a moment longer.
Despite their continual reassurances that they understood what he was going through, he could not help but feel like a failure when he had had no choice but to temporarily move back home.  He truly appreciated them allowing him to stay there while he had found his new job and prepared to move to Calgary. However, he could not bear another second of his father’s encouraging words that starting over was a good thing or his mother’s tearful begging for him to keep in contact as he was moving so far away.

The sound of small wheels caught his attention and he looked up to see a young woman walking toward him. She wheeled two suitcases behind her, one in each hand, and had two bags slung over each shoulder. She shuffled her flip-flop encased feet under the weight she carried, her floral sundress moving erratically around her legs. He wanted to look away but knew she was approaching him. There was no one else present and the lost look upon her face informed him that she was about to ask him something. Steeling himself for an unwanted conversation and hoping it would be over quickly, Josh held her gaze until she stopped before him.

Now he could see how red and puffy the areas around her eyes were. He assumed she had been crying recently. She smiled thinly at him. He thought the gesture looked forced, as if she did not want to smile but believed she should.

“Is this where the train to Calgary boards?”

Her voice was low and timid and held a sweetness he had not anticipated.  The small but genuine smile that formed on his lips surprised him.

“Yeah, the platform is right out the doors behind me.”

“Oh, thank God,” she sighed.

She righted the suitcases and then shrugged her shoulders to drop her bags. One of them hit a suitcase and then rolled several feet away on the filed floor but she did not seem to notice. She shuffled a few more steps and then plopped down on the bench beside him. He immediately straightened his spine and slid to the furthest end of the bench, wondering why she had not sat on the empty bench beside the one he occupied. His peripheral vision caught her head turn in his direction, and he reluctantly looked back to her. He watched the corners of her lips twitch and thought she was about to smile again. Her chin quivered and then, to his surprise and gross discomfort, she burst into tears.

Author Bio:

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been writing stories, and exploring my imagination. I’m a relatively new author in the publishing world, having recently had the first three stories in the There He Sat series, a collection of erotic shorts, being published. Before that I self-published two novels. One is a sweet romance, and the other a somewhat steamier look at the passionate relationship between a single mom and a vampire.

While I have been writing my entire life, I had to set aside my dreams to tend to the realities of attending college, working and raising my family. After planning a career and studying for it, I was sidelined by health issues that continue to plague me. The downtime allowed me to reopen the door to my writing ambitions, and here I am, writing daily and publishing professionally now. If you’d like to check out my work, I write in multiple genres, so there’s something for everyone! You can follow me on social media, as well. NaNoWriMo - Let the Words Flow!

You may have heard of National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, in which participants aim to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. If you're a writer, this may or may not appeal to you. For me, it works. While I try to write 500 words on a typical day, if I don't make it because life interferes, oh well. During NaNoWriMo, I make the words a priority. Sure my house could use a serious dusting right about now, but it can wait.

During this NaNo, I'm working on the stories of the Knights of Stone, a band of gargoyle shifter brothers. Since I've never been good at plotting, but more of a let's see where this story is going to go kind of writer, I'm flipping between stories of three of the brothers. The scenes are rough. Characters don't all have names yet. Yet, it's working in it's strange sort of way. When something develops in one brother's story, it makes me go back to another's, which is helping to shape the characters and this world I've created in my mind.

Are you participating in NaNo? If so, what are you working on?

Here's part one of the series. Part two is in revisions and should be ready for release in a month or so.

Knights of Stone: Mason

Knights of Stone: MasonGargoyles, tree witches, and wolf shifters have divided the Isle of Stone after a great battle twenty-five years ago. When Kayla, a tree witch, hears about the unconventional rock concerts in the gargoyle’s territory, she sneaks from her coven and into their territory to see for herself. Night after night, she returns to see one in particular shift into human form and play guitar at these unconventional shows.
For several nights, Mason has kept watch for the pixie-like female. He plans to seduce her, thinking she’s a visitor from another island. When he discovers she’s one of the tree witches, he retreats, attempting to keep his distance. The temptation is strong, but forbidden.
Kayla and Mason attempt to meet in secret, but other elements on the isle command their attention. A magical cloak created by the three clans on the island is thinning, leading to repercussions for all the clans. Kayla and Mason are caught in the middle of it, and their actions may change the fate for all.
“Kayla and Mason fall in love despite their differences, despite being different. It is a new way of telling Romeo and Juliet. You cannot be with them because of something their ancestors did, and the kids saying I do not care about that, I want to be with them regardless. A lesson many of us need to learn. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting something a little different from their normal.”
~ 5* from Books and Beyond Fifty Shades
