TAGLINE – Promises are meant to be broken sometimes. Can Kimball complete the mission and keep his feelings for fellow agent Darien in check in the process?
Blurb: Darien Mosely, aka BA Pointe, is a former NYPD officer with a chip on his shoulder. He came to PROTEKT in search of a new identity and career after being accused of killing a man in cold blood. Darien’s keen perception is what has made him an asset, but his cockiness has often landed him in hot water.
Kimball Emerson, aka Justice Masters, is an important figure in PROTEKT. Being a former army sergeant, he’s used to keeping secrets and being in danger on a regular basis. As one of the prime figures in the organization, he is counted on to be the finisher and, for the group’s latest task, he’s been called upon to find the leaders of a Russian mob. It should be easy enough with all his knowledge and special skills, but not with his close friend Darien Mosely along for the ride.
Kimball made a promise to his fiancé that he’d come back in one piece and not watch his partner’s ass, but he isn’t sure he’ll be able to keep the latter. Darien and Kimball have been best friends for five years and, at a Christmas party several months ago, they shared a kiss that left an indelible mark on their relationship.
This latest mission calls for focus and calmer heads if they are to find the offenders who are bringing illegal drugs into Russia. The question is, how can they do it with mutual feelings and the threat of extreme danger looming over their heads?
With his lover sleeping soundly beside him, Kimball laid awake, staring at the ceiling. The designs above his head turned into curls or clouds then into a face he immediately recognized.
It wasn’t Mike’s.
Kimball sighed inwardly and tried to turn around. The moment he felt Mike’s arm possessively around him, he froze in place. Mike was a light sleeper. Even the slightest move would wake him up.
Worse, Mike would be in a horrible mood, like a bear woken up from hibernation. He hated to be disturbed, unless Kimball woke him with a blow or penetration.
Though the investigation had gone without further incident, Kimball couldn’t stop thinking about his situation—the promises to quit PROTEKT, what he’d say to the chief. They’d become even more important than his mission.
In his mind, he could do the latter in his sleep, but convincing his boss and-or his lover to compromise would be a lot more difficult. Why he’d painted himself into such a corner he didn’t know. He did love a challenge, and trying to find a way to satisfy his employer and fiancé would be just that.
Never mind his feelings for Darien. They’d been apart from one another for the last three months with Kimball being on special assignment while Darien stayed here to record with his band. Other than calling or texting, they hadn’t had contact. Of course, being in the same room with him had brought those lusty emotions to the forefront.
And now they’d be traveling together on another mission, just like they had earlier in the year before the kiss had occurred. Kimball liked Brenda, but he’d rather take his chances with Darien, because they were close friends. When Darien joined, he and Kimball had hit it off from the start, having each other’s backs and hanging out, even during off time, but when Mike came into the picture, those casual meetings dwindled quickly.
Kimball watched helplessly as Darien brought a different guy to almost every function they’d attend and that didn’t go over well with him. Though he was envious, he would’ve rather to have seen Darien with a permanent partner.
