Author, A. S. Fenichel, Psychic Agents and Joshua's Mistake

I am terribly excited today. I have my good friend, A. S. Fenichel, here to talk about her new release, Joshua’s Mistake. I’ve already read it and definitely wanted to share the book love with all of you. I asked A. S. to visit with us today. Once I had her cornered, umm, I mean, once she arrived, I proceeded to get all the juicy details about her new paranormal erotic romance plus a little about her too. So, without further delay, here’s A. S. Fenichel and Joshua’s Mistake.

Stormie: Welcome, A.S.! Let’s start with some questions for those who may not know you yet. What genre do you currently write? And, is there a genre you'd like to write, but haven't tried yet?

A.S. : The list is long. LOL. I write in Paranormal Erotic Romance, Contemporary Erotic Romance, Regency Romance and I’m also writing a Paranormal Romance that is not erotic. At the moment, I can’t imagine that I want to write in yet another genre, but you never know. I don’t want to limit myself and if the story moves me, I will write it.

Stormie: Where did the idea for this story come from?

A.S. : Joshua’s Mistake is book two of the Psychic Mates series. I wrote Kane’s Bounty because my publisher, Ellora’s Cave was looking for stories about bounty hunters. I thought a bounty hunter with psychic powers would be fun to write. I was right. ;) In the book, Kane has a brother named Joshua. He’s a badass government agent, also psychic. I had not intended to write a second book, but so many readers wanted a book about Joshua that the idea took hold in my mind. Before I knew it, I had a story idea.

Stormie: What is the thing you love about your heroine? Is she a “typical” female character?

A.S. : Tessa is anything but typical. She’s a special forces psychic agent working for the same government agency as Joshua, has been framed for the murder of her psi team and faces treason charges. I love how tough she is, but also how she’ll risk anything and everything without regard for her own safety or future. You are going to love her too!

Stormie: Since there is a connection between Joshua’s Mistake and Kane’s Bounty, do you think it’s necessary for the reader to start there or will all the books in the series stand alone?

A.S. : The short answer is, NO. The books will each stand on their own. However, I think it’s always nice to start at the beginning of a series. That way when a character pops up in a later book, it’s like visiting an old friend.

Stormie: Do you put any of yourself into your characters or storylines, or are your books purely fictional?

A.S. : Both. There is a little bit of me in every character I create. The good the bad and the ugly, I’m in there. However, the characters also have a bit of who I’d like to be, who my friends are, who I never want to be and a great deal of family member traits, both good and bad. I steal lines from houseguest and neighbors all the time. So they are fictional. You should be careful when hanging out with an author, they are always sniffing for ideas. You may just end up in a romance novel. J

Stormie: Have you ever lived in another country? Where? If not, where would you like to live for a year?

A.S. : I have. I lived in the Netherlands for seven months and I loved it. I would really like to live in Italy and/or England for a year. It would be great fun to learn to speak Italian really well and I love the food and the culture. I’ve been to England, Scotland and Wales and I love it all. It would be fun to spend a year bashing around there.

Stormie: What is the one thing you would like us to know about your new release?

A.S. : Joshua’s Mistake, like Kane’s Bounty, is a fast paced rollercoaster ride through different parts of the country. The story line is a thrill a minute and I think you may even shed a tear or two. (oops, that’s more than one thing)

Just for fun–

Stormie: What is your favorite drink?

A.S.: I love a good vodka martini.

Stormie: Are you a cat or dog person?

A.S.: Cat. I love all animals, but I’m obsessed with my cat.

Stormie: Love or Lust?

A.S. : Love (but only because you made me choose)

Stormie: If you could spend the day with any famous author, who would it be? And, why?

A.S. : Living – Steven King – He has the most amazing mind and work ethic. I’d like to have some of that rub off.

Dead – Jane Austen – I have about a thousand questions I would love to ask her about her life and her passion for writing the perfect romance.

Stormie: If you could indulge free of any consequences, what would be your ultimate sexual fantasy?

A.S. : To be honest, I have a wonderfully satisfying sex life with my husband. I supposed if it were possible to throw out all personal inhibitions and just live in the moment unfettered by reality, that would be my fantasy.

I know that’s not the answer you were looking for, but it’s the best I can do. ;)

Stormie: Thanks for the great interview. Now, let’s check out the super sexy, Joshua’s Mistake.

Excerpt

Joshua got up from the farm table. “I’ll be back in a little while. Peggy, can you show Tessa where she can rest?”

Peggy smiled warmly. “Of course. You’ll be wanting a shower too. If you give me those clothes, I’ll get them in the washing machine and have them clean when you wake up.”

“You’re very kind, Mrs. Flack.”

She waved a bony hand in dismissal. “You just call me Peggy. Everyone does.”

Tessa had said all the right things to Peggy. She had been polite and controlled her emotions. Inside, she was just short of full on panic. He was leaving her. Who could blame him? Tessa didn’t want to alarm the Flacks so she remained silent, yet practically screamed in her mind, “Where the hell are you going? Are you leaving me here?”

Part of her wanted him to hear and another part of her understood why he would want to get as far away from her as possible. Just because she could feel his emotions didn’t mean he would sense hers. He was undoubtedly very practiced at closing off his mind. If he was really a level ten psychic, he would have to just to stay sane.

He’d likely get killed if he stayed with her. At least he’d gotten her to a place where she could try to catch a few hours of sleep and then she’d be on the run. Probably for the rest of her life, however long that might be.

From the way his head spun around, she might as well have spoken out loud. His eyes widened and then he stalked toward her. He was visceral and terrifying. His body language said he wanted her and he might take her right there in the kitchen.

Tessa held her ground in the center of the old linoleum floor. She didn’t know if she wanted to move closer or run away. Everything about Joshua made her at once, curious, aroused and afraid.

Bill cleared his throat and walked out the door with his shotgun in his hand.

Peggy said, “Well, um…I’ll just wait for you in the next room, Tessa dear.”

Joshua didn’t stop until he was standing with only a sliver of light between them. She had to crane her neck to look up at him. His mouth came within a centimeter of hers, but he never touched her.

“I’m not leaving you.”

Her heart pounded in her chest and her stomach clenched painfully. “I can take care of myself.”

One side of his mouth lifted. His right hand came up and calloused fingers slid across her cheekbone. He was powerful. He could kill her. If his psi rating was true, he could likely kill her without touching her, but he could just as easily snap her neck. She could defend herself, but what would be the point. This was Joshua Lakeland. Eventually he would win.

Those same fingers continued until they were threaded through her hair and he forced her to look him in the eye. “I know you can, Tessa. I’m not leaving because I don’t want to leave you. I can’t explain why, but we’re in this together. You’re going to have to learn to trust me.”

She had to force air into her lungs. “I’ve already taken several leaps of faith. You just said you were leaving. If you want to go, then go.”

He shook his head, but didn’t release her. “I’m going to get rid of the car. I don’t want to get picked up by the local police because we made a rookie mistake and kept a stolen car too long.”

“Oh.” She could feel her cheeks flushing.

His left hand came up and cupped her other cheek. He ran a thumb along her bottom lip. She wanted to be impervious to his attention, but her body trembled at his touch.
His mouth drew closer. His breath mingled with hers as her lips separated partially in shock at what was about to happen and partially in need of his kiss. Those deep blue eyes locked with hers and she couldn’t blink or look away. He scanned her face to her lips, closed his eyes and stepped away.

Tessa’s instinct told her she should throw her arms around his neck and take the kiss he’d nearly given. Her cautious nature kept her feet planted in the spot on the linoleum.

Only the sound of heavy breathing filled the kitchen for several ticks of the clock.

“I’ll be back in a little while. You’d better get some rest.” Joshua walked out the kitchen door into the yard.
