What character traits do you think of when you read or hear the name Iago? Devious? Tricky, sneaky, backstabbing? Two faced?
What about Janus? Some of us might think of the actor who played Pam Dawber’s father on Mork & Mindy. Some others might envision the Roman god with two faces, which is who/what I thought of while beginning to write my latest romantic suspense (Designed by Danger).
I admit I expected to find descriptions more sinister than Iago or at least as mischievous as the Hawaiian demi-god Maui. Instead I discovered Janus has two faces because he can look into both the past and the future. He is also considered a gatekeeper, capable of closing doors while opening others. Which makes him the perfect inciter for my heroine—looking to escape her dreary existence—and my hero—searching for a faceless would-be assassin.
